When making a big purchase such as an outdoor kitchen, the material you choose is likely your first question. Why do we choose to sell 304 stainless steel outdoor kitchens at 4 Life Outdoor?

Stainless steel cabinets are durable, heat resistant and low maintenance. If you live in the north, your outdoor kitchen may be covered in snow for months; whereas kitchens in the south will get hit by rain, sun and possibly salt if you are close to the ocean air.

304 stainless steel is known to resist corrosion extremely well. It can, however, be damaged or even rust if exposed to some chemicals. Salt, chlorine and de-icing chemicals are oxidizing and can challenge the integrity of the steel. The use of harsh chemicals and abrasive steel or iron brushes can also cause premature rusting.

Thankfully, 304 stainless steel requires very little maintenance and will look fantastic for years. All you need is a little water, mild soap and some cooking oil!

What is the best way to clean 304 Stainless Steel Outdoor Cabinets?

Start with simply hosing down your cabinets gently to get rid of any salt mineral deposits, especially if you live in southern regions. If you live where there is snow, leave them alone during winter and perform your maintenance once grilling season starts!

If you are using stone for countertops and as a shell around your cabinets, we recommend following your manufacturer’s maintenance instructions as each type of stone needs to be treated differently.

Powder-coated doors: Use a gentle, mild soapy water solution and a soft cloth to wipe them down. Use a light oil to polish only the handles, especially the handle corners. They might be more susceptible to damage. Any cooking oil will do!

Countertops and exposed stainless steel: After a gentle hose down and wipe with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, rinse well, let dry and apply a coat of cooking oil. We recommend applying some WD40 on the inside hinges and hardware occasionally. Polishing the countertops and stainless steel surfaces with oil will provide an extra coat of protection against minerals and chemicals.

Please do not store any chemicals within your cabinets.
